At Hawthorn Leather Company, the mission is to create durable and timeless leather products that will be cherished, creating lasting memories by your side throughout a lifetime. Our objective is to achieve this by prioritising sustainability and being as environmentally conscious as possible. Whilst crafting handmade leather goods is not an especially carbon-intensive activity, we believe that through our business and with your help, we can support reforestation projects around the world. With this strategy, we believe HLCo can become carbon negative rather than just carbon-neutral.
We have already kickstarted this project by supporting tree-planting projects in Madagascar, Kenya, and Uganda.
Materials
As a by-product of the meat industry, by using leather we are using a waste product which would otherwise be burned or sent to landfill, and turn it into something beautiful, and durable.
We source our leather hides from both wholesalers and tanneries here in the UK, as well as a select few world-famous tanneries.
To craft our products only vegetable-tanned leathers are used. This refers to the process of tanning hides using extracts of bark, leaves, fruits, berries, roots, and wood, instead of the harmful chemicals used in the faster chrome tanning process. This chrome-tanned leather is often used by high street fashion stores.
Hardware
We will always prioritise quality over cost. We believe that investing in quality materials increases the lifespan of our products, reducing the need to replace or repair your items as they are more resilient.
We typically use solid brass hardware across our product portfolio. Custom requests can be accommodated, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Packaging
Your order arrives carefully packaged in a fully recyclable box and protected from scratches by a 100% cotton dust bag.
No plastic is used.
Guaranteed for Life
Each and every one of our products is guaranteed for life. We believe in the quality and workmanship of our products, and so are happy to repair or replace any item that requires it.
All workmanship is guaranteed - if the stitching breaks or a rivet comes loose, just get in touch and we can discuss what is needed.
We aim to repair your original item where possible, saving the memories made and your hard-earned patina.
